Courses Offered:
- WHMIS
The goal of this program is to prepare individuals to be proficient in the Occupational Health & Safety legislation as it pertains to WHMIS. This course covers the classification of hazardous materials, WHMIS labelling and MSDS (material safety data sheets). Participants will also learn how workplace chemicals affect the body and what protective measures should be taken to protect oneself from exposure to hazardous materials. Renewal time is dependent on job risk assessment; minimum 1 year, and cannot exceed 3 years. Testing for certification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Back and Lifting Safety
The goal of this program is to prepare individuals to utilize proper lifting techniques to avoid strain, compression or fracture injuries on the job. The course covers the basic understanding of the form and function of the skeletal muscular system and the possible injuries to the back resulting from improper lifting techniques. The individual will learn the proper lifting techniques and understand how this will minimize strain injuries, reducing downtime, discomfort and increasing productivity. This course is considered essential to all workers due to the fact that back injury is the number one injury in the workplace. Testing for certification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Due Diligence
The goal of this program is to provide managers and supervisors with an understanding of what is due diligence and who can be charged under the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Participants will know how to establish a due diligence defence and learn about workplace safety fines for both the company and the manager or supervisor. This course is considered mandatory for all managers and supervisors and those persons being considered for promotion to these positions. Testing for certification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods
The goal of this program is to prepare individuals to be proficient in the fundamentals of transportation, handling, containment, control and protection from exposure to designated dangerous goods. Participants will learn the legislation regarding classes of dangerous goods, shipping documentation, safety marks, means of containment and packaging, accidental release and the responsibilities of the Drivers / Handlers / Shippers. Testing for certification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Fire Safety
The goal of this program is to prepare individuals to be proficient in identifying the classes of fires, types of fire extinguishers and the proper use and application of fire extinguishers. This course is called for in the Health & Safety Act and is considered mandatory for all employees in all workplaces. This course is designed to complement the company's own specific fire procedures for the education of all new and existing employees. Fire safety should be combined with WHMIS training for all personnel and renewed as specific for their job by the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Testing for certification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Lockout/Tagout
The goal of this program is to prepare individuals to be proficient in the proper procedure to initiate and recover from a lockout or tagout situation. The course provides the background knowledge and clear understanding for reasons for and consequences of lockout/tagout procedures as they pertain to the prevention of serious injury or death in the workplace. The responsibility and duties of due diligence and attention to details are covered as is the importance of strict adherence to procedure. Awareness of tagging and locking devices and their appropriate uses in the securing of machinery and equipment for maintenance and movement will be considered. Testing for certification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Cumulative Trauma Disorder
The goal of this program is to prepare individuals to understand the warning signs of a potential injury such as aches and pains. Participants will understand who is susceptible to CTD in the workplace and what measures to take to prevent injury. Additional understanding of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, what causes it and how to reduce the onset of this chronic condition will be considered. Testing for certification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Office Ergonomics
The goal of this program is to prepare individuals in the proper posture and typing position to avoid the chronic conditions associated with improper office ergonomics. The course includes a variety of ergonomic tips as well as exercises and stretches to improve circulation, relieve tension and improve posture. Individuals are instructed to check their posture and typing position to the course model and receive detailed information on the impact of poor habits on the muscular skeletal structure. Testing for certification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Lift Truck (Fork-Lift)
The goal of this program is to prepare individuals to be proficient in fundamentals of Lift Truck Safety. Theory subject, which will provide a conceptual understanding of Lift Truck operations and functions, characteristics peculiar to the lifting and manoeuvring with load, acceleration, deceleration and turning while maintaing a safe centre of gravity. A comprehensive understanding of the theories involved in the job and their potential outcomes with regard to safety. This program is designed to achieve CSA Certification when combines with practical hands on evaluation. Testing for the theory training portion of the certification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Fall Protection
The goal of this program is to prepare individuals and supervisors to utilize proper techniques to avoid fall injuries on the job. The course covers the basic understanding of fall safety and fall arrest techniques. This course is considered essential to all workers working at heights of 2 meters or more in the work place. Testing for cerification has a mandatory minimum as set out in the CSA standards.
- Fundamentals of Safety Management
The goal of this program is to prepare management individuals to be proficient in the setup and operation of the health and safety program in the workplace including accident investigation in reporting, inspections and documentation, monitoring and follow-up, planning and prevention, training and communications and lines of responsibility. The course covers the fundamentals of safety management, roles, duties and responsibilities of management and the penalties associated with negligence or fraud. This course is key to establish one's competency as defined by the Health & Safety Act.
