Retail sales in September were $43.3 billion, down 0.5% from August but an increase of 1.2% from September 2014.  Excluding sales by motor vehicle and parts dealers and by gasoline stations, retail sales were up by 2.9% from September 2014.     Retail sales in volume terms were up 0.1% from August.  Increases in month-over-month sales were reported in 8 of 11 sectors representing 60% of retail trade.  September 2015 sales over September 2014 were  up in seven provinces.  British Columbia led the way with a 6.0% sales gain, followed by Prince Edward Island (+3.6%) and Ontario (+3.4%).  The...

The Consumer Price Index rose by 1.0% in October compared with October 2014, matching the annualized increase in September.      The CPI in October for goods was up 0.2% from a year earlier while the CPI for services rose 1.9%. Gasoline prices decreased 17.1% from October 2014, after falling 18.8% in September.  Overall, energy prices fell 10.4% between October 2014 and October 2015, following a 10.8%  annualized rate of decrease in September.  Excluding energy, the annualized Consumer Price Index rose 2.1% in October, unchanged from the rate of annualized increase reported in September....

Wholesalers sold $55.2 billion worth of goods and services in September, down 0.1% from August but 1.4% higher than in September 2014.  Excluding the automotive sector, wholesale sales were up 0.5% from September 2014.       In terms of volume, wholesale sales were down 0.4% in September from Auguat. Municipalities issued $7.1 billion worth of building permits in September, down 6.7% from August and 6.0% lower than in September 2014. Three provinces reported an increase in permits over a year ago.  Saskatchewan recorded a 113.2% year-over-year gain while Prince Edward Island  posted a 34.5% increase.  The largest annualized losses occurred in Newfoundland and Labrador (-37.0%) and New Brunswick (-28.1%).  Ontario reported a 17.1% loss, while the year over-year decline in Quebec was 11.7%. Employment in October increased by 44,100 from September.  The unemployment rate was 7.0%, down from 7.1% in September.  Construction employment was down 0.7% from September and manufacturing employment was up 0.4% from a month earlier.
