Wholesalers sold $48.8 billion worth of goods and services in February, unchanged from January but 0.8% higher than in February 2012.  Excluding the automotive sector, wholesale sales were up 0.4% from February 2012.       In terms of volume, wholesale sales were unchanged in February from January. Annualized wholesale sales grew in eight provinces.  Prince Edward Island (+17.5%) led the way, followed by Alberta (+6.5%) and Saskatchewan (+6.4%).  Quebec recorded a 4.5% sales gain over February 2012.  Ontario (-3.4%) and New Brunswick (-2.1%) experienced year-over-year loses. Consumer Price Index, March, 2013, published April 19

The Consumer Price Index rose by 1.0% in March compared with March 2012 following a 1.2% increase in February    Gasoline prices decreased 0.3% from March 2012, after growing 3.9% in February.  The slower rate of growth in the annualized CPI was due mainly to these lower gasoline prices.  Excluding gasoline, the CPI was up 1.1% over a year earlier, the same rate of annualized increase as in February. Building Permits, February 2013, published April 9

Municipalities issued $6.0 billion worth of building permits in February, up 1.7% from January but 8.5% lower than in February 2012. The only three provinces to report a growth in permits over a year earlier were Manitoba (+40.3%), Alberta (+20.9%) and Prince Edward Island (+0.1%)  Double-digit annualized decreases over February 2012 occurred in five provinces.  New Brunswick suffered the largest loss (-37.2%) followed by Nova Scotia (-33.7%) and British Columbia (-33.6%).  Ontario experienced a 14.4% decline while Quebec’s loss was 8.9%.
