Employment in June decreased by 6,400 from May. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.8%. Construction employment was up 0.6% from May while manufacturing employment fell by 0.4% from a month earlier. In June, employment stood at 18.0 million, up 1.0% from June 2014. Full-time employment grew by 64,800 from May, while part-time employment fell by 71,200 from the previous month. Municipalities issued $6.7 billion worth of building permits in May, down 14.5% from April and 3.6% lower than in May 2014. Two provinces reported an increase in permits over a year ago. British Columbia recorded a 21.6% year-over-year gain while Ontario posted a 6.4% increase. The largest annualized losses occurred in Manitoba (-53.2%) and Newfoundland and Labrador (-39.5%). The Consumer Price Index rose by 0.8% in April compared with April 2014, after increasing 1.2% in March. The CPI in April for goods was down 0.7% from a year earlier while the CPI for services rose 2.0%. Gasoline prices decreased 21.0% from April 2014, after falling 19.2% in March.
