longer in use so the city planners, working with a
home builder in St. Thomas, designed a use for the
unused rail bridge as a green space park and trail
that is aligned with the Trans Canada Trail and other
county trail systems. As well, cycling and other
park activities for picnicking, a music space, water
zone, low-tech play features and a quiet zone will
be incorporated into the design around the elevated
park.
A project of this nature requires involvement
from the community to move it forward. Geerlinks
Home Building Centre stepped up to the plate and,
working with many of their vendors, has made
a significant contribution in time and products
towards completion of this worthy project.
As businesses, we need to remind ourselves that
we should support endeavors in the communities
we live in, such as the St. Thomas Elevated Park;
not just for the recognition, but also to enhance the
livability of our community.
Harry would have been proud to see his
namesakes keep the tradition of community
involvement in his city.
